Pokémon Go lifetime revenue over $4B, reports best yearNiantic, the game development company best known for their Ingress and Pokémon Go, is celebrating a crowning achievement: one of their best years yet thanks to what is perhaps their most popular game. Pokémon Go, which was initially released in 2016, was met with soaring adoration and immediately became immensely profitable. But as the years went by, things went into a bit of a slump.
But when the game added such features as playing remotely (rather than physically being at a location) and half-walking distance to hatch eggs (where players can hatch new Pokémon to battle with by exercising), players flocked back to the game to pass the time while in quarantine. Sales spiked up $1B in 2020 and, astonishingly, the app earned a lifetime of $4B.
